Alex Erbs | Director

Alex Erbs brings more than a decade of hands-on experience in self storage operations, management, and transactions to his role as Director at EquiCap Commercial.

Alex began his self storage career in 2014 in a combination of operations and business development roles.  In 2016, he co-founded Gateway Storage with the acquisition of five self storage locations in the St. Louis area.  He led day-to-day operations of the hub-and-spoke hybrid management model. With his background in operating smaller, secondary market facilities, he founded Erbs Management Group in 2020 to assist owners with their daily operations.

In 2022, Erbs Management Group merged with The Storage Mall, combining deep industry experience in owning, managing, acquiring, and developing facilities across the Midwest and Northeast to become a leader in third-party management. Alex joined EquiCap Commercial in August 2025, where he leverages his strategic, owner-operator perspective to guide clients through self storage acquisitions and dispositions.

Based in St. Louis, Alex focuses on the Missouri, Southern Illinois, Kansas and Northwest Arkansas markets. He is known for building trusted, long-term relationships and providing clients with insight-driven strategies that position them for success.

​

An active industry leader, Alex serves as President of the Missouri Self Storage Owners Association and as a Director for the Illinois Self Storage Association, giving him a front-row seat to both local and national trends.  He has also been a leading expert in operations and third-party management presenting at dozens of national and state association events.

 

Outside of work, Alex enjoys time with family and friends and remains passionate about volleyball—a sport he played at the collegiate level and continues to coach today at the high school level.
